2023…life has changed and so has my fandom

I enter this season as a hockey fan for, oh, let’s just say, the 40th year of my life. I don’t exactly know when I became a hockey fan, but it’s been a long time.

I ender this season for the first time as a father of two, which means a lot less time can be had staying up incredibly late watching the Avalanche drop the puck at 9-9:30 Central (for this and other reasons, I really hate it when the Avs are on national television).

I’m hoping to be the “unencumbered fan” I have aspired to be ever since Colorado won the Stanley Cup after a twenty-plus year drought. The last two or three seasons I just felt so burned out, even though I did little more than sit on an easy chair and scream at the television screen. I certainly don’t want to be that kind of fan in front of my kids, and frankly I’m too old for this shit. I just want to sit back, relax, and enjoy good hockey. Hopefully it’s my favorite team that displays it, but if not, I care very little about where it comes from (well…preferably not Minnesota, but whatever). My football team (Broncos) and baseball team (Rockies) both stink to high heaven, and my basketball team (Nuggets) just won their first NBA championship, so with the Avs having won it all in 2022, so I feel now is the time to finally take on a less-involved, less stressful approach to my sports fandom.

Also hoping to write in here more often. I didn’t start this blog in order to garner any sort of following, I just wanted to find an excuse to write more, and seeing as how I haven’t really used it since 2021 (!!!) it’s high time I post something…ANYTHING to try and get myself putting words out there and do a lot less doomscrolling on social media apps I can’t stand.

Anyway, here’s to hoping. And here’s to also hoping this is not the last post I make in here for the next two-plus years.
